Dawne and Dave’s background in Wildlife Biology and Zoology has always been the base for their love of the outdoors. Dave worked as a researcher and lab instructor for the Department of Biomedical Studies at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. Dawne’s work in the Environmental Biology Department eventually morphed into a career as a high school science teacher. Running an outdoors club at her school required them to obtain certification in Wilderness Canoe Tripping, Moving water and Wilderness First Aid. That’s when the world of whitewater opened up to them. What followed was years of travelling further afield in a quest to explore the classic rivers of Canada’s north - the Hood, Horton, Coppermine, Mountain, Nahanni, Snake, Wind, Thelon, Hayes, Fond du Lac, Clearwater amongst many others. The latest trip to the Broken Skull would prove to be their most challenging!
